Intimate, stylish and possessing a natural flair that recalls the likes of Missy Higgins and Birdy, young singer-songwriter Alice Skye is steadying herself for a huge future. Her songs are dreamlike and recall the shadows of a childhood in the Wimmera region of north-Western Victoria. As a Weregaia woman, Skye’s culture is essential in her approach and this was recognised as she was awarded the inaugural First Peoples Emerging Artist Award this past March. Add this to the triple j Unearthed prize she recently won to perform at the National Indigenous Music Awards and it’s not hard to see why her songs Friends with Feelings and 60% are beginning to take hold.
