Settling on the funniest moniker possible would usually be a bit of a misstep for a new artist but Soccer Mommy, the solo explorations of 20-year-old Nashville native Sophie Allison, isn’t really concerned with your perceptions. In fact, her single ‘Your Dog’ opens with the classic salvo “I don’t wanna be your f**king dog”. Point taken. Living in the same realm of pointed lyrical guitar pop as favoured Australian export Courtney Barnett, Soccer Mommy has built from bedroom tape beginnings to sit as one of the more talked about up-and-comers of 2018. Her debut album Clean was recently released on prestigious Fat Possum records and she has toured with the likes of Liz Phair, Paramore and Foster The People.
